70% Belgian Linen
30% Mulberry Silk Yarn
12 ply Sport Weight (12/36 Nm)
320 yds/ 100g skein
A luxurious yarn, with beautiful drape, for the warmer months. The Belgian linen is of high quality and is wet spun to soften and smooth the linen fibers and produce a very strong and even yarn with a natural sheen. Combined with the mulberry silk, the final yarn is smooth and lustrous. As with all linen yarns, this yarn just gets more supple each time it is handled and washed.
Good for knitting, crochet and weaving.
Use US 1.5 needles for a denser (not see-through) fabric, i.e., for t-shirts or sweaters, or use larger needles or hooks for more airy items such as shawls and cover ups.
*****Depending upon the dyes used, you can obtain a range of dye effects very easily:
Dyers used to dyeing wool and other animal fibers can also use the same acid dyes on this linen/silk blend. Just dye as for a wool/silk mix. The silk takes the dye and the linen remains undyed resulting in a marled effect.
If fiber reactive dyes are used and the yarn is dyed in the same way as plant fiber yarns, both the linen and silk take up the dye. With a single pigment dye, a uniform color is obtained. If multi-pigment dyes are used, the silk and the linen often take up the dyes differently resulting in a two -tone yarn. We recommend minimizing the time the yarn is exposed to the soda ash (fixitive) to maintain the lustre of the silk.
